Nowadays, many people buy clothes from online shops, don't they?
One problem with internet shopping is choosing the size.
In particular, for pants, it's hard to know what inseam length to specify...
In this article, we will introduce three simple ways anyone can measure their inseam.
Let's get a solid grasp of your inseam length and avoid mistakes when choosing clothes!

What exactly is inseam length, something we think we know but don't?
The inseam is the vertical distance from the crotch of your legs to the floor.
You might not often find yourself measuring your inseam in daily life, but when buying bottoms from online shops, not knowing your inseam length can make it hard to choose the right size or plan for alterations.
To find the perfect bottoms, let's measure your inseam length once.
Now, let's introduce three ways to measure your inseam.
Inseam Measurement Method 1: Measuring While Standing

What you need
- A firm, square object like a book or DVD case
- Sticky notes or masking tape
- A tape measure
How to measure
- Keep sticky notes or masking tape handy for marking.
- Stand straight with your back against a wall.
- Place the book or DVD case between your legs at the crotch and press it firmly against the wall.
- Mark the wall at the top edge of the object using your sticky note or masking tape.
- Use a tape measure to measure the distance from the floor to the mark.
Inseam Measurement Method 2: Measuring While Lying Down

What you need
- A plastic bottle
- A tape measure
How to measure
- Lie on your back, stretch your legs out, and place the soles of your feet flat against the wall.
- Place a plastic bottle (filled with liquid so it doesn't move is best) at your crotch.
- Slowly get up while being careful not to move the bottle.
- Measure the distance from the wall to the bottle.
Inseam Measurement Method 3: Measuring with Pants You Own

What you need
- A pair of pants with a design similar to the ones you want to buy
- A tape measure
Choose a pair of pants that is closest in design to the one you are planning to purchase.
Even if worn by the same person, different types of pants have different inseam lengths.
We recommend measuring your skinny jeans when buying skinny jeans, and your wide pants when buying wide pants.
In fact, even for pants you normally wear, there can be a 6cm difference in inseam length between skinny and wide pants!
How to measure
- Lay the pants flat on a level surface.
-
Move the top layer of fabric aside, smooth out any wrinkles, and measure the inseam of the bottom layer starting from the crotch point using a tape measure along the seam.

We also introduce how to measure your inseam using pants you own in a video.

Points to note when measuring with pants you own

Because there is a stepped edge on the left leg, use the edge of that step as the starting point when measuring the right leg.

When measuring the left leg, start measuring from the top edge of that step.
(By the way, for suit trousers, the seams cross cleanly, so you use that point as the base.)

If there is a difference in the left and right leg lengths, measure the longer leg.
Some people have different leg lengths due to physical imbalances.
If possible, it is better to measure both sides and specify "Left: ○cm, Right: ●cm" so you can have them finished to a length that perfectly suits your body.

Warning! What are the "NG" (wrong) ways to measure your inseam?
Have you ever had an experience like: "I carefully measured my inseam and specified the length, but the finished length is totally off! Even when I complained to the shop, they said 'We finished it to the length you specified'... What a horrible shop!"
Perhaps you measured it incorrectly.
If your measurement method is wrong, even if you specify your inseam length with great effort, the shop will follow the correct measurement procedure, which could result in the pants not fitting after alterations.
Here, we will introduce two NG measurement methods in a video.
The first one is a method where you keep pausing and re-measuring while standing with your left hand.
With this method, it ended up being about 1cm longer than the actual length.
The second is the method of measuring while laid flat.
This time, it ended up being about 2cm shorter than the actual length.
A longer length might still be fixable, but if it is too short…
Be sure to use the correct measurement method!
Pants and Denim You Can Wear Without Worrying About Inseam
We have explained how to measure your inseam for jeans, but BOBSON also offers items that can be worn without needing to measure your inseam strictly.
Bobson Sports Jeans

Sports jeans feature ribbed hems that are narrowed.
Even if the hem is a bit long, it bunches up at the bottom without any issue, and conversely, if it is a bit short, it can be worn with a 7/8-length look.

They are fashionable and easy to move in, thanks to 3D cutting that fits the body.
They use the latest denim fabric with five functional features: contact cooling, UV protection, heat insulation, lightweight, and water-absorbing quick-drying.
While they are comfortable with an elastic waist, the belt loop design removes the casual, loungewear feel typical of jogger pants.
Furthermore, there is a dedicated smartphone pocket on the side that doesn't interfere with human bending and stretching movements.

BOBSON Workers Painter Pants

Wear them stylishly at work and head straight out for your time off! Fashionable BOBSON Workers, packed with attention to detail in their silhouette and length.
With a rough yet calculated silhouette, you can wear them without worrying about the length.

Because they are initially set to a shorter length, if they feel short, you can enjoy styling them by peeking out colored socks or show off your ankles for a cool look.
If they are long, they are designed with a calculated silhouette that also looks cute when rolled up.
B-1969-XX-J [Okayama Selvedge Denim] Jeans

The ultimate ultra-dark denim selvedge jeans, packed with attention to detail in fabric, stitching, design, and every aspect.
Since the selvedge's signature "red ear" (red line) is present, we recommend rolling up the hem to show it off.
Therefore, it is not a problem if the hem is slightly long.
